Parintins 2025 and Amazon on Foot: When the Rivalry of the Bumbás Unites for the Forest

Covering the Parintins 2025 Festival for the Amazônia de Pé movement was an experience that transcended artistic photography. In an unprecedented initiative, the rival bois, Caprichoso and Garantido, set aside their rivalry in the Bumbódromo to embrace the Challenge of the Bumbás: a historic mobilization to collect signatures in support of the Popular Initiative Law (PLIP) that aims to protect 50 million acres of public forests.

The Challenge of the Bumbás: Social Engagement through Art

The 2025 festival inserted forest conservation at the heart of the dispute. The goal of the movement, articulated by names like Kaianaku Kamaiurá and Patrícia Patrocínio, was to gather 1.5 million signatures to ensure the allocation of public lands for conservation and social justice.

Caprichoso vs. Garantido: The Competition for a Living Amazon

The group that gathered the most support for the PLIP would receive a prize of R$ 40 thousand, encouraging the blue and red crowds to become agents of change.

Recording Local Leaders and Voices

I had the opportunity to document fundamental testimonies:

  • Erick Nakanome (Caprichoso): Highlighting the bull as a symbol of resistance and revolution.

  • Alvatir da Silva (Garantido): Emphasizing the bull as a tool for the reverberation of traditional communities.

The Role of the Fan in the Legislative Process

The campaign rewarded the most engaged fan with VIP access for the 2026 festival, turning each citizen into a political advocate for the climate cause.

Criteria of the PLIP: Blocking Sicar and Territorial Protection

The documented technical proposal focuses on preventing the registration of public lands by private entities, ensuring sustainable use by riverside dwellers and indigenous people.

Visual Logistics: Capturing Climate Urgency in the Amazon

As the photographer for the expedition, my focus was to capture the intersection between Amazonian cultural identity and the fight for land. In a scenario of climate urgency, each image served to show that the protection of the forest is inseparable from the protection of its people.

From the Bumbódromo to the Chamber of Deputies

The photos and videos produced during the festival not only fueled social media but also served as evidence of the strength of popular mobilization that now moves to the National Congress.

The Technology of Capture in Mass Environments

Working among thousands of fans required an agile file transmission system, allowing the Amazônia de Pé movement to post updates on the collection of signatures in real-time.

Why Should Your Brand Invest in Narratives of Social Impact?

The success of the coverage in Parintins proves that today’s audience seeks not just aesthetics; they seek purpose. Projects that unite ESG, culture, and legislative transparency need documentation that conveys trust and emotion.
